Doki Doki Literature Club suffers from what I’m dubbing “Madoka Magica syndrome” in that it was a genuinely thought provoking story with characters who were fleshed out and well written, with fantastic writing, but the only thing it was known and praised for is “it looks cute and pink but it’s actually SCARY!” And now people think that’s all there is to it, and then start sexualizing the teenage characters.
